History
Temple Judea was the first synagogue in Doylestown, and remains the center of Jewish life in Bucks County. Our congregation has now grown to over 200 families. Temple Judea was founded in 1959 by 15 families seeking the same things we still want today: meaningful worship, an excellent Jewish education for our children, a deep connection to our Jewish history and to Israel, and a warm community that offers opportunities to form lasting friendships. In 1967, the congregation dedicated a new building on Swamp Road in Doylestown. James A. Michener, the noted author and Bucks County resident, spoke at the dedication of that building which served Temple Judea well for 40 years. In 2013, the congregation carried our Torah scrolls in joyous procession from our old home to our current beautiful and more spacious home on Rogers Road in Furlong, Pennsylvania.
